Segmented & Natural WoodTurning Art
My name is Rob Sheffield and I am a woodturner located in north Georgia at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. I am passionate about my craft and hope you will enjoy exploring my website galleries of segmented and natural hand turned vessels.
I have enjoyed working with wood for as long as I can remember. I was first introduced to the woodturning lathe in high school and enjoyed it so much that I knew I would one day pursue this craft. After retiring in 2008, I now have the opportunity to follow my passion.
Segmented woodturning is the style of turning to which I devote most of my time. My initial segmented design employed the manual approach by using graph paper to sketch the vessel and determine the height and width of each piece. A far superior and much more accurate way is to use Bill Kandler’s software, “Segmented Project Planner”, to create the segmented designs. With a little practice you can produce a beautiful but simple segmented design in a matter of minutes.
I’m excited about the endless possibilities that segmented woodturning provides as it engages my past woodworking experience and continually requires new levels of skill.
I am currently a member of the American Association of Woodturners, the Segmented Woodturners Forum, and the Gwinnett Woodworkers Association.
